“The Sadist” is an American thriller from 1963, also recognized as “Profile of Terror” and “Sweet Baby Charlie”. Written and directed by James Landis, it stars Arch Hall, Jr. as a mentally disturbed killer, modeled after the infamous Charles Starkweather, who holds a group of people captive at a junkyard. This low-budget, independent production, notable for the debute of cameraman Vilmos Zsigmond (Oscarwinnaar).
Plot
A terrifying road trip descends into a horrific nightmare.
Three teachers, Ed, Doris, and Carl, become stranded in the desert after a car breakdown. They are taken hostage by the psychopathic Charlie and his silent accomplice, Judy. While Charlie repairs the car, they mercilessly torture the teachers. Ed devises a desperate escape plan, but his courage is tested as Charlie’s gruesome past is revealed. Tension mounts to a chilling climax as the teachers fight for their lives against Charlie’s sadistic terror.
